jt6m.org     How to setup JT6M - Ver.4.x.x A guide to using JT6M
WSJT Ver.4.x.x
Although the current version of WSJT is Ver.5.9.7, Ver.4.x.x information is given here as this version is more compatible with older / slower PC's. There are a few differences between Ver.4.x.x differs and newer versions. There is no Freeze or Clip function or SpecJT, however Ver.4 has Spectran included and also rx / tx times can be changed from the usual (fixed) 30 second periods. This allows uses to set periods of 15 seconds for rx / tx which, during shower peaks, can make qso's much quicker. Of course both you and your QSO partner need to agree these period timings in advance. Spectran can be used as a standalone spectrograph with other applications. Details of Spectran can be found here.
When WSJT is run for the first time you are presented with 2 Windows, WSJT Main Application and Spectran. Set up of Ver.4. is perhaps a little easier than Ver.5. Setting of EU or NA defaults is straight forward and should offer no confusion in applying.

Click Setup. Set the COM port no.you are using for PTT control - Setup/Set COM Port or Ctrl+P. Check RTS and/or DTR depending on how the COM port is configured and wired on your interface. RTS is typical setting.
To use Spectran as the audio input to WSJT select it. From Spectran's own menu (Setup/Select Sound Card), you can select the sound card you wish to use.
Access to your sound card mixer can be found in this sub-menu too - Adjust RX Volume control and Adjust TX Volume control. This is a useful shortcut.
TX Stop forces Auto off will stop receive function of WSJT when TX stop in main window is pressed. This is probably best left un-checked.
Click on File - here you can find access to saved .wav files. By default, WSJT creates and saves .wav files in folder RxWav. Any saved .wav files can be "replayed" and their signals decoded. An option is given to remove these - Delete Files in RxWav or Ctrl+F2.
Checking Save Text in File DECODED.CUM will save all decoded signals text as displayed in the Decode Area in the main window., good and bad, in the file DECODED.CUM.
With this checked, when you click within the Waterfall area, press the Decode button and the end of every RX period, the decoded text is saved.
Be warned that this file can grow to several MB in size over time. You can quickly delete this by clicking Delete File DECODE.CUM or Ctrl+F3. WSJT Menu Bar Help
You can save each RX period in a .wav file. Click on Save and there are 2 options, Save Decoded and Save All. Select as required but be aware that this will use up space on your PC hard drive.
Click on Help. Here you'll find a message about WSJT 4.7 Users Guide, click F1 (you should find this in the install folder). Note that the displayed URL is not correct - old K1JT web site.
Pressing F5 will produce a handy popup window which shows the message sequences you should follow for the mode you are using. This should help you if you forget the procedure !
